Cocoon Beauty & Day Spa – North Canterbury Business Awards

Wow! What an incredible year 2016 has been so far for Cocoon.

Jess and Sally first decided to submit an entry to the North Canterbury Business Awards in early 2016, and many weekends, and evenings were spent refining and perfecting our submission. After making it through the preliminary rounds, we then went before a panel of judges for a face to face interview. As Jess was currently away on her long awaited holiday, Sally braved the judging panel on her own. After the interview, we simply had to cross all fingers and toes and wait for the Awards night to finally arrive.

Last Friday 2nd September, the whole team attended the 2016 North Canterbury Business Awards, held in the Ohoka Hall. Sponsored by MainPower, and catered fabulously by Continental, it was a fantastic night out for the team, and a great chance to get dressed up (as you can imagine, Beauty Therapists love any excuse to get dressed up – lashes, makeup, the works!).

We were finalists in two categories; “Excellence in Retail” (this was the category we had submitted an entry for), and the People’s Choice Award (this was won by public votes online though the awards website). While we unfortunately did not win the People’s Choice Award (this went to Oasis), we were absolutely speechless when we were named the WINNER of the “Excellence in Retail” category.

To win a prestigious award like this is the culmination of a dream that myself (Jess) and Sally have had since April 2011 when we first purchased Cocoon Beauty & Day Spa. We told ourselves we wanted to create a Beauty Clinic focused on treating our clients as individuals, where we would go the extra mile to make each clients treatment, and experience at Cocoon something to remember. We wanted to make our clients feel valued, and important. We set out to do this by using only the best products, with a focus on treating the skin from the inside and the outside.

We also firmly believe that any successful business needs great people, and we have been incredibly blessed to have such a wonderful team of talented, passionate and hard working individuals, who care as much about our clients as we do. There is no doubt that winning this award is a direct reflection of the pride and care that our team takes in doing their work to a standard of excellence. So, we would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank our wonderful team (past and present – you know who you are!). A particular thanks to Courtney Smith, our Assistant Manager, who in November will celebrate 5 years with Cocoon (Courtney joined us fresh from completing her Beauty Therapy qualification). And to Julie Saunders our fabulous Clinic Co-ordinator, who has now been an integral part of the Cocoon team for over 4 years. Thank you girls – we couldn’t have done it without you!

Also a special thanks to Ross (Jess’s Dad, Sally’s husband) who has washed countless loads of clinic laundry, and fixed many broken things in the last 5 years.

Thank you also to our wonderful loyal clients, who have supported us through earthquakes, road closures, road works, (and earthquake strengthening, when we had to temporarily vacate our premises), your support is invaluable and we are grateful to each and every one of you.
